When the unexpected happens, we're here for your family.
Sometimes life changes in an instant. A serious illness or injury, a sudden bereavement, a traumatic event or another family emergency can leave parents and carers struggling to manage day-to-day life — including making sure their children are safe and cared for.
Our ESML Scheme is here for those moments. We can provide flexible childcare when a child or their family is facing an emergency or unexpected crisis, helping to give families some breathing space when they need it most.
Help when you need it most
When something unexpected happens — whether it's a serious illness or injury, the sudden loss of a parent, carer or sibling, a traumatic event or another family emergency — arranging childcare can feel overwhelming. That's where we can help. We'll work with you to understand what's happened and, where we can, provide childcare quickly so your child can remain safe, settled and cared for while you focus on what matters most.
Care for as long as it's needed
Every situation is different. Some families may need support for just a few days, while others may need longer to get back on their feet. The ESML Scheme can provide emergency, short, medium or longer-term childcare, depending on your family's circumstances, available places and funding.
A conversation, not a hurdle
If your family is going through an emergency, please get in touch. There's no shame in asking for help. We'll listen, talk things through with you and work out what support might be appropriate. We know that reaching out can be difficult, especially when you're already dealing with something unexpected, so we'll make the process as simple and supportive as possible.

As a Jersey charity, our purpose is to support children and families when they need us most.
We know that sometimes life can change through no fault of your own, and having someone you can turn to can make a real difference. The ESML Scheme means that support is here when an emergency happens.
Our caring, qualified team will take the time to understand your situation and do everything we can to help your family. While places are subject to availability and funding, we'll always do our best to find a way to support you.
