If you run a club, a team or a community group in Jersey, you will know the headache. You have somewhere to be, a happy crowd of people to take with you, and no easy way to get everyone there together. Squeezing into a string of cars is stressful, and commercial hire can cost more than a small group can spare.
That is where we can help. Centrepoint has a fleet of minibuses, and when they are not out with the children, we are glad to share them with the wider community.
How minibus hire works, in a nutshell
The idea is simple. You tell us when you need a minibus and where you are heading, and we help you get your group there together. Hire can suit a single afternoon out, a full day, or something a little longer.
Because we are a charity, this is never about turning a profit. It is about making good use of vehicles that already serve local children, and keeping the cost kind for the groups who need them.
A few things are worth thinking about before you book.
Roughly how many people are travelling, and whether anyone has access needs.
The dates and times you have in mind, with a little flexibility if you can.
Who will be driving, as there are licence rules to be aware of for larger vehicles.
Who minibus hire suits
All sorts of groups find a community minibus useful. You might be a sports team heading to a fixture, a youth or church group planning a day out, or a club organising a trip somewhere a car simply cannot reach in one go.
If your group exists to bring people together rather than to make money, the chances are a minibus could take a weight off your shoulders. Travelling together is often the best bit of the day, too. Everyone arrives in the same mood, and nobody gets lost on the way.
A quick word on driving and licences
This is the part people most often ask about. The rules for driving a minibus depend on the size of the vehicle, the driver's age and how long they have held their licence, and whether the trip is voluntary or paid. Some drivers can use a standard car licence under certain conditions, while larger vehicles or paid driving can need an additional category.
We will not pretend to give you legal advice here. The safest step is to check the current rules on the Government of Jersey website and to talk to our team, who can tell you what each of our vehicles needs. We would always rather sort this out properly before a journey than leave anything to chance.
Every booking helps a local child
Here is the part we are proudest of. When you hire one of our minibuses, you are not just solving a transport problem. You are helping a Jersey charity that has cared for local children for more than thirty years.
Those same vehicles get our children out exploring everything the island has to offer, from woodland walks to days by the sea. Money raised through hire helps keep them on the road. So a trip that is good for your group turns into something good for children right across the island. That feels like a fair swap to us.
If you think one of our minibuses could help your group, take a look at our vehicle hire page or simply get in touch. We will talk you through how it works and find a way to keep your group moving.
